WarCraft Version Switcher by 3DM@rk (All versions in 7 MB!)

Introduction

Version Switcher is a tool that allows you to change your Warcraft III version, for example to watch old replays or to play on platforms that don't use the latest patch.

This is a super compact (<7 MB), open source (written in C#) Version Switcher, which allows you to switch to any of the following Warcraft III versions: 1.20e, 1.21a, 1.22a, 1.23a, 1.24a, 1.24b, 1.24c, 1.24d, 1.24e, 1.25a, 1.25b, 1.26a.

This switcher is designed for Microsoft Windows and won't work on other operating systems. To run it, you might need to install .NET Framework 3.5, but it will probably be already included in your system.

Important

Before you download this program, make sure you have a legal copy of Warcraft III, The Frozen Throne patched to the latest version (1.26a). If you do not have the latest patch, connect to Battlenet to autoupdate.

Notice: the Switcher doesn't contain any files copyrighted by Blizzard Entertainment. If you do not have a properly installed legal copy of the game, the switcher won't work at all.

Installation and usage

1) Download the archive VersionSwitcher2.1.zip.
2) Extract the archive to any directory on the disk.
3) Run VersionSwitcher.exe.
4) The Settings window should appear. If your Warcraft directory was found correctly, then just select the desired switch mode (see below). Make sure you have at least 500 MB (for cached mode) or 40 MB (for on-the-fly mode) of free space on the drive, then click OK.

5) The switcher will begin to create the version cache. This will take about one minute if you have chosen the cached mode and a few seconds if you have chosen on-the-fly mode.
6) When the cache has been created, run the Switcher whenever you want to change your Warcraft version - just pick the version from the drop-down list and click Switch.

Switching Modes

There are two modes of operation. In the "cached" mode, the Switcher uses pre-created version files in the cache directory. If you don't want to have 500 MB of cache files on your hard drive, you can use "on-the-fly" switching. That means the Switcher will create the required files at the moment it needs them. This reduces the size of the cache directory to about 40 MB. However, the switching procedure can take longer in on-the-fly mode (depends on how old the requested version is and on the speed of your computer), so it's useful especially if you use only the last two patches or if you don't switch too often.

You can change the switching mode in Settings.
